Coliving Destinations In Latin America
Mexico & Colombia for Digital Nomads
Looking for your next remote work destination? At Co404, we run three colivings across Mexico and Colombia, so we can give you the lowdown on what each city has to offer and how to choose between them. Whether you’re wanting a quieter, nature-focused month in San Cristóbal, late nights out in Medellín or world-renowned food in Oaxaca.
Oaxaca City, Mexico
Vibe: The food capital of Mexico, drawing famous chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Anthony Bourdain to enjoy both its street food and its Michelin-starred restaurants. Set against colourful UNESCO heritage streets, Oaxacans use graffiti as a form of protest and weddings as an excuse to invite the whole town.
Attractions: Hierve el Agua, Monte Albán, Barrio de Jalatlaco street art, Txalaparta Bar, Mercado de 20 de Noviembre, textile markets, mezcalerías
Climate: Warm year-round. Daytime temperatures in winter (November to February) around 20°C, in summer (March to May) 30+°C. Rainy season (June to August).
Best time to visit: Día de los Muertos (October 20 to November 5), Guelaguetza (mid-late July)
Cost of living: A lunch menú del día is around 180 MXN ($10.50 USD), espresso costs around 35 MXN ($2). A monthly gym membership goes for around 800 MXN ($45 USD).
Coworking: Free, included with your accommodation at Co404, private call booths and all.
San Cristóbal, Mexico
Vibe: A colonial pueblo mágico in the cool Chiapas highlands, shaped by Tzotzil Maya culture and a fiercely independent regional identity. Slower, quieter with incredible nature — not to mention our luscious Co404 garden — we consider this one of Mexico’s hidden gems.
Attractions: Sumidero Canyon, Chiflon Falls, Laguna de Montebello, Andador Guadalupe, San Juan Chamula’s “chicken church,” the village of Zinacantán.
Climate: Cool highland climate year-round. Bring a jacket for evenings, even in summer. Daytime sits comfortably mild, rarely hot.
Best time to visit: Día de los Muertos (October 20 to November 5), quieter and more intimate than Oaxaca’s version, with deep Tzotzil Maya roots. February to May for dry season hiking.
Cost of living: A menú del día runs around 100 MXN ($5–6 USD), espresso around 35 MXN ($2). Gyms around 600 MXN ($35 USD) per month.
Coworking: Free, included with your accommodation at Co404, private call booths and all.
Medellín, Colombia
Vibe: Reggaeton and bachata spill out of every other doorway and the locals have one of the clearest accents for Spanish learners to understand. With a population of 2.5 million and beautiful surrounding nature, it has something for everyone.
Attractions: Comuna 13, Parque Arví’s cloud forest, Plaza Botero, bachata (socials and classes across the city, seven nights per week) and the nightlife.
Climate: Commonly known as “The City of Eternal Spring”, Medellín is a mild 22°C year round.
Best time to visit: True to its nickname, there’s no bad time to visit weather-wise. But we’d recommend coming for Feria de las Flores in early August.
Cost of living: A menú del día (soup, main, drink) costs around 23,500 COP ($7 USD), an espresso 7,000 COP ($2). Gym memberships 174,000 COP ($40–45 USD) per month.
Coworking: Free, included with your accommodation at Co404, private call booths and all.
The Real Question
Less worried about “where?” and more worried about “who with?”
We get it. Travelling solo as a digital nomad can get lonely fast. Stuck between AirBnb’s to focus on work and party hostels where you battle constant FOMO…
At Co404, we’re trying to fix that. Learn about the community who frequents all three of our locations.
